Hawthorn in the Rosacea (Rose) family always make me think of love. Warmth and softness to oneself and the world. I love seeing old Hawthorn trees and think about the people who planted them in their gardens and used their magic. Susan Weed Mentions that it is recorded to be one of the most sacred trees, having the ability to “close what is open and open what is shut” .
Hawthorn has amazing and lasting effects. However just like it take a while for one’s heart to fully love Hawthorn works slowly with the body. This plant has been shown to lowering blood pressure, increase the effectiveness of the heart’s pumping action, strengthen the heart muscle, assist in those healing from heart surgery, supporting the immune system, and increasing longevity. One can use fresh or dried berries, flower, and leave and make sweet teas, syrup,or tinctures.
Full Moon Folk Medicine will be using hawthorn within our Summer Wellness Kit to support the heart and bring forth compassion and transformation this upcoming season!
